income-tax and sales tax seminars (8) Athletic meets for Tribal Adivasi Students (9)

Tournaments for Handicap Students etc...

We have dedicated Rotarians who are ready to give their 100% commitment in

preparation and administration of any project. We also have plenty of needy community

whom the Rotarians can help to alleviate their sufferings. But we do lack in raising to

much of funds. We understand that you are eager to help many other clubs in such

community projects as mentioned above. We would like to tender our sincere request

to help us financially in any of the following two projects : (1) Providing water for

agricultural and other use through construction of check dams at proposed sites.

MATCHING GRANT APPLICATION FOR PROVIDING DRINKING WATER TO

VILLAGERS AND SCHOOLS THROUGH BOREWELL.

Explanation :

Project Site : Villages in Thane District of Maharashtra State of India.

Increase in population, awareness about hygiene, and changed lifestyle has resulted in rise in demand

of water for drinking and other domestic purpose in villages in Thane District. Ground water is the

main and sometimes only source of water. Conventional shallow open wells have now given way to

deep bore wells to meet this rising demand of water. Overexploitation of water causes the groundwater

levels to drop. We feel that while we cannot overlook the problem posed by falling groundwater levels,

water cannot be denied to the rural poor population. We therefore intend to install borewells in water

starved villages and also construct some simple groundwater recharge systems along with it. Benefitting

community shall be educated about the importance of ground water recharge, who will look after

maintainance of the borewell & recharge systems.

Borewells shall be provided with handpumps. Local people shall be trained for Basic maintainance of

the land pump. Recharge systems like Soak Pits, recharge wells, nalla bunds, contour trenches etc.

shall be maintained, cleaned, locally.

Members shall visit project sites, to oversee the work ensure proper quality. Offer expertise for Geophysical
