$17,600

ROTARY CLUB, PARWANOO plans to set up a Rotary Eye Unit at ESI, Hospital, Parwanoo. This project is to enhance the capacity and improve the quality for FREE EYE operations for CATRACT being conducted under Rotary Community Service, Avenue of the club. Rotary Club, Parwanoo has been doing this community service since Last few years and wish to expand this service to a much larger scale. Requirement in the region and in the country is very large and unending due to economic backwardness and high incidence of this illness.WHO and Health ministry of Government of India has estimated that incidence of Cataract is estimated to the extent of 5000 patients per million population in India on an Average.Hilly regions have a much higher incidence. Some Estimates show that in these regions the incidence is approximately 20% more. Parwanoo is located in the hilly region of North Western Himalayas.

Due to poor population , quite a Large percentage of Cataract patients are not able to get themselves operated. This leads to almost blindness. Hence considered a VERY serious health impairment requiring attention of social organizations like Rotary. Description: ESI, HOSPITAL (Employees State Insurance Corporation, is an autonomous corporation, created for the benefit of employees in organized sector of Industry. This Corporation was created by an act of Indian Parliament). ESI HOSPITAL, Parwanoo is a 50 bedded hospital ( to be enlarged to 100 bedded hospital shortly). It is set up to mainly provide medical facilities to Industrial Employees and their Families numbering approximately 15000 Families covered under ESI act. The Hospital has well equipped departments including Laboratory, Radiology (X-Ray, Echo-cardiology) Medical ,surgery, Children , gynolocology and EYE DEPARTMENT.Most of the departments are headed by qualified and Experienced M.D. Doctors.Rotary club Parwanoo proposes to set up an EYE UNIT with additional machines like SLIT LAMP, APPLANATION TONOMETER and AUTO REF – KERATO METER, the quality and capacity of Eye operations will improve considerably. It is estimated that with some additional help from some outside doctors CONNECTED WITH ROTARY, the capacity of the Eye Unit will be enhanced to 1200 surgeries Per annum. After installing the technically advanced equipment Rotary Club Parwanoo has a target of additional 600 surgeries per year.
