Inclusive Education for children with Learning Disabilities.
There ar many children in and around Tiruchirapalli, India who have learning disabilities. Most of them come from economically weak section of the society. These children sufferfrom Intellectual Impairment, Attention Deficit hyperactive disorder(ADHD,Autisitic spectrum disorder,Down"s spectrum etc. They are not welcome in regular mainstream school, nor do they fit in special schools meant for physiocally or mentally challenged children suffering from high level of disabilitites.
These children are midway between normal and special children.
Sir Sivananda Balalaya (Temple for learning for children) is the only main stream school in Tiruchirapally who admit such children, train them depending on individual needs and requirements, guide them to move to mainstream education with ease.
The school has started the inclusive education for children with LD on experimental basis with 60 childre.
The school has a team of trained teachers. The school provides children with occupational therapy, physio therapy, motor skill improvement, yoga, hehaviou modification etc. The trainaing also includes basics in computing, knlowedge inputs, language skill, speech therapy. The children are thus empowered academically so that they totally integrate with mainstream.
The school needs financial support to improve the training facilities, to import equpment, special furniture and teaching, learning materials. The school is also required to provide bigger and spacious wash rooms and a bus to transport these children to and from their homes.
The school is recognised by the State Government to give inclusive education to LD children.
Senior Rotarians PP Jainus D Johan, PP N.Venkataramani, and PP N.B.Balasubramanian from the Rotary Club of Tiruchirapalli have visited the scholl and are satisfied with the progress shown by the school in providing inclusive education to children with LD. |
