Ithna Asheri Charitble Outpatient Dispensary, centrally located in downtown Arusha, Tanzania, is a nonprofit health service complex established in 1986, followed by the addition of an in-patient hospital in 1991. Ithna Asheri Charitable Hospital, Clinic and Dispensary provide curative and preventative medical care to the general population of Tanzania, specifically Arusha and surrounding areas, regardless of class, race, or religion. In 2007 alone, 64,405 people were served as outpatients, with hospital admissions totalling 1,891. The needs at Ithna Asheri are great, though all in-patients and out-patients are served with great care and expertise by a total staff of 125 full time employees.
One of the greatest needs for this growing health serve complex is improved diagnostic capabilities through the use of an ultrasound unit with probes to meet specific needs. The purpose of this matching grant is to purchase a new, modern Philips HD11 XE Ultrasound System which will enable doctors at Ithna Asheri to more quickly, efficiently and accurately diagnose the physical needs of their many, many patients in a timely manner and, thus, better serve their medical needs. Matching grant funds will also purchase the following probes to be used in conjunction with the ultrasound system:
1. OB/GYN SW Application (obstetrical, gynecological, endovaginal, and fetal echo presets. Also includes biopsy capabilities.
2. Vascular SW Application (Carotid, TCD and bilateral lower and upper extremity presets.)
3. General Imaging SW Application (Adult and pediatric presets. Presets include abdominal, small parts, musculoskeletal, and prostate exams.)
4. Cardiac probe S4-2 for adult cardiology.
The Arusha Mount Meru Rotary Club of District 9200 is partnering with Ontario Rotary, Ontario California, USA in District 5300 to improve medical services to the people of Tanzania through the purchase of the Ultrasound System HD11 XE and needed probes, as identified above.
We invite all clubs to participate in making this very worthy project a reality! |
