The a project for provision of water tanks the under listed schools and one heath centre.
These Community schools are located in Kajara county, Ntungamo district, Uganda. Kajara is located 340 kilometers from Kampala – the capital city of Uganda. The county is in a semi-arid area with very little rainfall throughout the year.All the schools are community owned with boys and girls.
Due to the hilly nature of the area, the schools experience serious water shortages. The school children and teachers fetch water from downhill in water ponds/dams for drinking and washing.
In addition to the health hazard paused by dirty water, a lot of teaching time is lost because water sources are located 2-3 kilometers from the school. This has adversely affected the academic performance of these schools. Water borne diseases have also been reported in these schools.
The project is also intended to provide water to Ihunga Health Centre. This Health centre was constructed by the local community with basic infrastructure and clinical facilities. It also has a maternity ward.
Approximately 3000 patients and expecting mothers visit Ihunga Health Centre every month. Unfortunately Ihunga Health Centre lacks safe and clean water both for the maternity ward and other wards.
The Health Centre gets water from a pond/dam located 2 kilometers away. This not only wastes time, but also exposes patients to water borne diseases.
