In Timor Leste (East Timor) only about 16% of women birth with a Skilled Midwife, the remainder birth with a family member, friend or alone. Many have no transport, or money to pay for transport and many live a long distance from the Health Facilities. According to UNICEF (2009) 1:35 Timorese women will die from a pregnancy related complication.
This Matching Grant is to provide one 2nd-hand (under 5 years old), 4WD Toyota Troop Carrier, - Maternity Ambulance - purchased in Australia and to be used in Remexio in the Aileu District. |
