Safe Drinking Water

This project intends to provide 70 farming households, and an 80-student elementary school, a simple but hygienic manner in utilizing the year-round availability of spring water in the neighboring hills of Purok Muruk, Barangay Pasonanca, Zamboanga City. Purok Muruk, population 350, does not have a proper water supply. The water utility service does not reach this area, and the depth of the groundwater makes wells impractical. Water is collected from the ground springs in the surrounding hills. The residents use half a bamboo stems on wooden stilts as conduits for bringing water from the mouth of the springs to their households. In most instances, a “collection pool” is made on the ground so that two or more households can share the water. These pools and “pipes” system occasionally are along the paths used by people and farm animals. |
