There are only two hospitals in Kitgum Districts where reproductive health services and facilities for maternal emergencies can be obtained. The Health centre 111 that all rural based are poorly equipped and managed by 40% trained midwifes with 60% Untrained traditional birth attendants.
The infant mortality rate is now at 106 per 1000 live birth while the maternal mortality rate stands at 365 per 1000 delivery
At least 44% of Expectant Mothers deliver at the Health centre while the rest deliver from their villages.
The 12 health centers lack hygiene and sanitation packages to prevent post natal infection such as tetanus, eye infections, HIV and many others
Only 20% of mothers who deliver at these health unit benefit from these packages.
Very little attempt have been directed to acquire additional facilities by the District Local Government to address this unseen /hidden threatening condition.
The main Goal for this project is to improve safe delivery and promote safe motherhood among rural mothers.
Primary beneficiaries: 2000 rural mother in Kitgum and Lamwo District, 2200 new born babies in Kitgum and Lamwo District.
Secondary beneficiaries: More than 3,500 people from the 2000 households will benefit from this support by bringing up healthy babies. |
