Blind People Can't Work
$15,000
The grant budget will be used to pay for the cataract surgeries of 150 productive-age (20 to 55 years old) patients. All these patients will come from two provinces in the Philippines, Tarlac and Pampanga.
Cataract remains to be the major cause of blindness in the Philippines. The surgery for cataract involves a procedure that lasts only a few minutes but the reward to the patient lasts a lifetime.
In the Philippines, it affects about 350,000 people, mostly people in the elderly age group. A significant portion of these patients are those in the productive-age group, where because of their cataracts are not able to be employed. These are skilled members of society who would otherwise be able to be productive citizens if not for their cataracts. |
