Water, Grain, Seed for School

Matabeleland North is considered "opposition" territory and for this reason it is often overlooked for delivery of vital grain relief supplies by internat'l relief organizations. The country has suffered drought and the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS and cholera, which contribute to the fact that 1/3-1/2 of the population of Zimbabwe is dependent upon food aid for survival. In the remote villages, children get their only meal of the day if it is provided at school. This project will benefit and support 3 schools in the villages of Gwai River and Dete by providing for their fundamental needs: clean water supply, staple food (grain), and a means to support themselves (sustainable vegetable garden and seed). If the project is funded by early November, which is the start of the rainy/planting season, a team can deliver the supplies personally to these village schools. Construction of the gardens and installation of bore holes, pumps, cisterns and irrigation will take approx. 3 months to complete, depending on weather, fuel etc.
