In the give the youth a Kickstart project we envision to help many young people to make use of local talents and develop small enterprises that they can use to generate their livelihoods.
The bicyle transport has been thriving in Kilifi town in the Kenyan coast with many youth getting their livelihoods through transporting of people over short distances and sometimes light luggages within the small town and villages.
However with the intoduction of motor bykes, the bicyle riders have been left with no livelihood since it has all been taken up by the fast moving bykes.
In this project we envision setting up a bicyle garage and develop a small trailer/caravan that can be pulled by a bicyle. With this we shall have to use bicyle whells for the caravan and light metal frame and ply wood. The cost of a single piece would be approximately KES 15,000 (USD 200).
The project budget would cater for setup of a bicyle garage, purchase of required tools, training and an initial batch of materials enough for the first 10 caravans.
Once the production starts, the caravans will be loaned to the bicyles riders with either a daily, weekly or monthly repayments after which proceeds would go into sustaining production of more and loaning to more riders.
It is expected that if the pilot project is successful then it would be shared with the ministry of youth and other districts for scale up and implementation.
The project will be undertaken and supervised by our club |
