One of the main causes of Blindness is Cataract and this is a major area which needs to be focused and addressed on priority basis. Cataracts are easily removed by a single procedure and an artificial (IOL) Intra Ocular Lens is implanted and eye sight is restored.
The project consists of 24 eye check up camps at the remote areas of Cochin with the help of Aditya Eye Hospital, Cochin. From these camps we expect nearly 400 patients for cataract surgeries as the cataract is the common eye disease seen the the remote areas. Out of this 400 patients nearly 100 patients are expected to be very poor and they may not be afford to conduct the surgery.
These surgeries are performed at Aditya Eye Hospital, a well established eye hospital run by our Rotarian Dr. Sunil Bhaskaran. It has a dedicated Eye Operation Theatre with most modern operating microscopes & Pheco emulsification Unit to provide state of the art surgical facility to the people of this area and adjacent villages.
Dr. Sunil Bhaskaran MS, DO, a senior ophthalmologist of repute.Adithya eye hospital has been successfully completed many Cataract surgeries since its starting.
Last year the hospital conducted nearly 60 cataract surgeries free of charge. If the matching grant is received a substantial boost will be given towards the essential cause of Blindness Prevention. After this grant, the Hospital will continue providing the IOL surgeries through other donations and contributions from the rotarians and other like minded people who give importance to the community service. |
