Child Heart Surgery

$24,000

The grant will be used to surgically correct heart defects of children born to very poor parents. We expect to treat about 25 children with such conditions in District 3202, India.

Out of a 1000 births about 8 children are born with heart defects. Of this about 4 will be children whose parents cannot meet the cost of surgery. With a population of about 20 million in District 3202 and 21 births per 1000 about 3200 children are born annually with heart problems in the district, half of whom cannot meet the cost of surgery.

The Rotary Club of Calicut aims to help about 25 poorest of the poor of such children with the matching

grant we are applying for.
