The Rotary Club of Anchorage Hillside has reached out to Children's Lunchbox of Anchorage, AK to determine how we can help them accomplish their mission of helping to nourish over 21,000 hungry kids in Anchorage, AK. They regularly cut hard boiled eggs and grate and dice vegetables and fruits to include in the meals they serve each day. Currently Children's Lunchbox has only a residential kitchen food processor. Having a large commercial food processor will allow kitchen staff to greatly lighten their workload and reduce the time volunteers will have to spend in the kitchen.
This project will serve as many as 21,000 children per year. The health benefits of children having a reliable source of nutritious meals are enormous, particularly for the disadvantaged for whom this may be the major meal of their day. Good health and the absence of hunger has also been shown to improve performance in school.
Hillside Rotarians will actively participate in the project by researching available equipment and assisting the Children's Lunchbox staff in selecting the best machine to meet their needs. Rotarians will check that the facility has adequate space and power for the equipment and make any improvements as needed( with appropriate professional oversight and help). Our club will follow up on the performance of the food processor and assist with any warrantee or repair issues as needed.
