Summary: Upgrade and improving to a city recreation area in Palmer, Alaska to accommodate many families who use the area for recreational sports.
This recreation area has one small climbing area with a slide. It is in an area that encompasses 12 soccer fields and 2 baseball fields for the community. At any given time there are 100's of people at this location with small children waiting for siblings to finish. The play set is designed to hold approximately 10 children but there are usually 25-35 trying to play on it. The area lacks play equipment and needs an addition. Our plan is to add natural elements such as logs, boulders and buried tires for the kids to play on and increase imagination and motor skills. I have met wight he City Manage and the Director of Community Development. Both are on board with the project and are willing to help in any way. I was given a copy of the Handbook for Playground Safety by the Director of Community Development. I have spoken with a local gravel company and they are willing to donate the boulders to the project. I have tires that have been donated by a local company as well. The funds will cover any machinery we need to bury the logs and tires. It will also be used for the products we need to weather proof the logs and possibly for having the logs milled if needed. Our club is volunteering to do all of the manual labor for this project. We will be starting this project in mid July. We expect the project will need a 30 day time frame to finish.
