Overview:
The Rotary Club of Anthem requests a District Grant of $650.00 to provide vocational training tools to Teen Challenge drug and alcohol rehab facility in New River, Arizona. Steve DeMar, a member of the Rotary Club of Anthem Foundation Committee, has prepared this District Grant request.
The President of the Rotary Club of Anthem is Ryan Halleran.
Background:
The ongoing rehabilitation of the residents at Teen Challenge in New River involves preparing these men to have the skills to support themselves once they leave the facility and move back into the outside world. As a part of this training, a program is being developed to teach these men car repair skills. These skills require a range of tools and the purpose of this grant request is to gain the funds to help Teen Challenge purchase tools for this training program.
Implementation:
The total budget for the project is $2,000.00. The district grant will provide $650.00 to the project budget, matching the $1,350 from the Rotary Club of Anthem's 2017-2018 budget. The facilities have been inspected and a list of supplies was compiled for this project.
The current list of tools and their prices was derived from an estimate from the staff leaders at the Teen Challenge facility. Those tools were priced and the list assembled for the purpose of this grant.
The total estimated cost for the tools comes to... $ 2,000.00.
Teen Challenge staff will provide the training in auto mechanic work to the residents. It will be worked into a set of vocational skills that the residents can take with them when they leave the New River facility. The average stay for a resident who completes this phase of the rehabilitation program is seven months, providing enough time to let the residents become familiar with a number of auto repair and maintenance skills.
Rotary Club of Anthem club members will assist with the program planning, and purchasing of the tools for this vocational service project.
Benefits:
1. Auto mechanic and maintenance skills that will make the program graduates more employable and more likely to be able to return to the outside world, to get a job and support themselves.
2. Upon award of the District Grant, appropriate print, electronic, and social media releases will be made and posted.
3. In addition to explaining the grant in detail, the media releases will provide facts about the Rotary Club of Anthem, Rotary International and Rotary Foundation's charity rating that is the result of its funding model and financial oversight. The intent is to encourage the public to participate in Rotary events and contribute to Rotary Foundation programs and projects.
