Project Description

Country: USA

Location: McCall, ID

Total Budget: $5,000

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: The project will construct 2 miles of new trail along Payette Lake as part of a 33 mile multi-use and non-motorized trail.

Since 2010, the Central Idaho Mountain Bike Association (CIMBA) has been working toward creating a 33 mile, single-track, multi-use, non-motorized trail that would circle Payette Lake. The need for a stand alone trail would make it possible to ride or walk the entire west side of Payette Lake and connect back into the City of McCall bike trail along Highway 55 on the west edge of town. This trail will provide benefits to the community in various ways. Children and families will have a safe avenue to be physically active in their quests to remain healthy. Economically, as a community that thrives on outdoor recreation, this would provide one more attraction for those within the community as well as those visiting.

Our funding will be used construct 2 miles of trail along Payette Lake. This is part of the first phase which includes approximately 4.5 miles of new trail that will be built by Trail Solutions; the trail building contractor connected to CIMBA's parent organization International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA). The project will begin in August with completion by the fall of 2017. Rotarians will be part of the community meetings to discuss results of the fieldwork. In addition, several members are avid recreationists and outdoor enthusiasts that will provide feedback to the overall project. We will be one of several community partners involved in this project.

This project represents a unique opportunity to build a heritage quality trail in a very popular recreational community.

The Rotary Foundation approved the district block grant on July 17, 2017. Your project is approved. Having more money available to us from The Foundation, the district committee is increasing the DDF for your project. To get the additional money, go into your grant and cancel the signature process (description tab – admin.). Then go to the financing page and edit your financing to reflect $2,675 of DDF. You may reduce your club contribution or keep it the same, making sure your project remains “fully pledged”. Then send again for signatures. Changes will be reviewed by the district before final approval and notification of grant award. If you have questions or need help, please contact Jedd Thomas at (208) 339-1185.
