Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Fullerton

Total Budget: $3,000

Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Three events to improve families and the children of Fullerton, CA.

This project supports two very successful events that benefit the kids of Fullerton. Our community partners help us achieve our Rotary goals and we want to return the favor in the form of a grant. This clean up will leave a lasting impact on Rotarians by working along side local teens and provide a positive influence. The Teens benefit by working to complete a community project and earn money for their clubs. The Arboretum will benefit by having a thourough cleaning before the start of their busy season.

Families are invited to gather and enjoy the glory of Easter with our Rotary family. In preparation for this event, Rotarians complete various tasks including ordering, and collecting materials for a community egg hunt. At least 15 Rotarians meet as a collective to fill eggs and hide them throughout a local park. Hundreds of kids come out to enjoy the Annual Easter Egg Hunt with 1,000's of eggs to hunt and discover. While some eggs hold candy, others hold coins and dollars. In addition, there are a couple of special hidden eggs that contain something more than an Easter surprise. Three eggs hold education bonds worth $250.00 each ($750 total). These special eggs are developed in partnership with Farmers and Merchants bank. Farmers and Merchants bank works with winning families to process the education bond and secure them through maturation and direct submission to a two or four year school. Upon opening an account, families learn valuable financial literacy lessons to better manage the cost of college as well as their household budget. The cost of this event including the education bonds is $1,500.00. This event will leave a lasting impact by helping three families plan and pay for a college education. Rotarians will learn the value of giving back, the families will learn the value of a higher education.

Our project has been completed.

-Community groups helped Rotarians with a Community Clean up of the Fullerton Arboretum.

-Families attended our Community Easter Egg Hunt to discover education savings bonds.

For both projects, community outreach was conducted and partnerships were developed. Over 15 Rotarians participated in each project to plan, coordinate, and implement projects.
