Project Description Country: USA Location: Huntington Beach Total Budget: $4,600 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Literacy Project at Sun View Elementary to provide needed materials for teachers and their students. The teachers need magnetic white boards as their current class sets are in bad shape. They use these for all subjects throughout the day. The boards provide teachers immediate feedback when they check for understanding from the students in addition to answering questions and general practice work. The teachers also need Rekenreks which are colored beads on metal poles connected by wood. These are used to help students with math. The students are also provided with books for Summer reading to reinforce good learning habits during the Summer. Our Members "assemble" the book packages and then deliver them to the school, read to the students and then hand out the books to the students. The white boards and Rekenreks will be delivered in the Fall with the books being delivered in the Spring.
