Project Description Country: USA Location: Boise, Idaho Total Budget: $6,500 Area of Focus: Maternal and child health Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Confidence building and swimming lessons for approximately 100 third grade students from low income school. During the school year the YMCA will bus low income third grade students after school to the YMCA for confidence building exercises and swimming lessons. The funds will pay for the transportation to the YMCA in Boise from the Whittier School in Boise. and for qualified staff to teach. The director of the the YMCA, Cliff Naumann is a club member and two other Rotarians from Boise West and Eagle/Garden City will be actively involved in sign ups and organization. Whittier is a low income school. Most of the kids' families do not have the resources for more than the bare necessities. Teachers report that participating students are more confident, alert and focused. Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental deaths for children. Many of the Whittier students will not learn how to swim without this program. Funds will be used to support approximately 100 students. Your project is approved. Having more money available to us from The Foundation, the district committee is increasing the DDF for your project. To get the additional money, go into your grant and cancel the signature process (description tab – admin.). Then go to the financing page and edit your financing to reflect $3,375 of DDF. You may reduce your club contribution or keep it the same, making sure your project remains “fully pledged”. Then send again for signatures. Changes will be reviewed by the district before final approval and notification of grant award.
