Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Rock Springs, Wyoming

Total Budget: $2,500

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Complete small dog park in Rock Springs, Wyoming

The Need: Rock Springs currently has a dog park. This park is the most heavily used park in Rock Springs, a city of 30,000 residents. The park is also used by tourists staying in the area or just passing through letting their dogs have a much-needed break from travelling. Dogs of all sizes use the current dog park and this has resulted in small dogs, as well as owners - many of whom are elderly, being trampled, run into, and injured by larger dogs.

Meeting the Need: The City has a fenced area complete with sprinkler systems and trees planted by the Arbor Day Foundation dedicated to a small dog park. This project will allow planting 5500 square feet of sod for completion of a safe, separate park for small dogs to play and exercise with their owners. This will promote outdoor activity and exercise as well as interaction between people of different ethnic backgrounds.

Use of Funds: Funds will be used exclusively to purchase 5500 square feet of sod. All work will be completed by City of Rock Springs employees.

Timeline: We would like to complete this project by September 30, 2017.

Club Members Involvement: Club members have been holding fundraisers to help pay for this project. Club members will help plant sod if needed.
