There is a need to not only provide books (literacy) and activities to our elementary schools but also basic ethic and character training. The 4 way test is a simple solution to both needs. Having seen this project done in my previous club in Logan Utah, I felt it was important for the Cheyenne After Hours club to begin this important outreach to our schools. With dictionaries going to 3rd graders, having this coloring/activity book go to the 2nd graders not only provides a book to many kids who do not own one, but also a solution to some of the challenges they will face growing up. By introducing the 4 way test and teaching them about it they can use those simple four lines to resolved conflict in the classroom or on the playground.
This first year we will provide approximately 5 schools 2nd graders with the coloring book "Andy and Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure" This is about 288 students. We will also provide each school library of the schools a hard copy of the book and each teacher will receive a soft copy to be used in the classroom. The project costs are outlined below:
Coloring Books: 288x$2.50= $720
Hard copy of Books: 5x$17.95=89.75
Soft Copy of Books: 15*$9.40= $141.00
Extra books/supplies $174.25
Total cost of Project $1125
After Hours club: $500
District Grant $500
Extra Grant from Cent. grant (3rd) $125
