Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Twin Falls

Total Budget: $2,045

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: School Supplies and Field Trip funds for local schools

There are several poverty-stricken school districts in our area. In our district around 12% of the students are considered homeless, most of that is from 3 elementary schools that have up to a 30% homeless rate. Many children are unable to bring supplies to be successful in school. Recently a new law was passed that stated schools could no longer charge students to participate in school based activities, i.e. field trips, or supplies for crafts, which has caused schools to be unable to provide these type of activities without a grant. The field trip to Boise each year cost the school $1,500 and without a grant they are unable to take the students on this trip. Schools now also provide a washer and dryer so that students who are unable to have clean laundry from home can bring it to the school and have their laundry done. With the grant, we plan to provide much needed school supplies, field trip funds, and items regularly needed by teachers that the school can't provide, and students aren't able to. We will be hosting supply drives and fundraisers to match our side of the grant. We will meet with local schools to determine the needs of the school and the needs of the students in the school so that we can provide them with the most needed items.

Tier 3 grant applications need to have a spending plan to justify the funds requested, as in is identifying the cost of a washer/ dryer (written vendor bid perhaps), identifying the costs and quantities of the supplies you propose to buy, documentation that the bus trip costs $1500, etc.

The Rotary Foundation approved the district block grant on July 17, 2017. Your project is approved.Having more money available than requested, the committee is increasing the DDF for your project. To get the additional money, go into your grant and cancel the signature process (description tab – admin.). Then go to the financing page and edit your financing to $1,050 of DDF. You may reduce your club amount or keep it the same, making sure the project is “fully pledged”. Then send again for signatures. Changes will be reviewed by the district before final approval and notification of award. No disbursement of funds will occur until final report on P-930 is submitted and accepted by our grant auditor. If you have questions or need help, please contact Jedd Thomas at (208) 339-1185.
