Summary: Fresh Start treats children who suffer from physical deformities caused by birth defects, accidents, abuse, or disease. The majority of our patients are within the United States, over 50% of those patients are from California/San Diego County area.
The Surgery Weekend Program provides comprehensive, high quality medical care to low-income, underinsured children with physical deformities and other conditions at no cost to them or their families. The Surgery Weekend Program consists of six, 8-week-long Surgery Weekend Cycles. Each 8-week-long Surgery Weekend Cycle includes an intensive 2-day Surgery Weekend where volunteer medical professionals provide extensive reconstructive and neuro-surgeries. Throughout the rest of the Cycle; Fresh Start holds dental clinics, laser treatments, speech therapy services, ophthalmology, health education, and many other healthcare services to ensure that all patients receive comprehensive medical care specialized to their specific needs. At each Surgery Weekend Cycle, Fresh Start treats approximately 65 children, totaling 400 children annually.
