Summary: One-day fishing excursion for children with special needs, boat from Dana Wharf, Dana Point, CA
The project is designed to provide a memorable experience to children with special needs, such as being afflicted with autism, Down's Syndrome, or cerebral palsy. They and their caretakers will be invited to a day-long fishing adventure aboard the "Dana Pride," a 95ft. fishing vessel out of Dana Wharf in Dana Point. The boat can accommodate 100 persons on-board. The target date is September 10, 2017. The fee for the boat rental is $600. It includes crew, fishing gear, lunch, expert fishing instruction, and experienced personnel in dealing with special needs. We have budgeted another $500 to purchase commemorative T-shirts for the kids and $200 for a special banner. Rotarians will join with the kids and their families to assist with the administration and logistics. They will also use their contacts since 1983 with Esperanza Special Needs School to recruit participants. The objective is to provide a memorable day for disadvantaged children, to bolster their self-confidence, and to give them an incentive to achieve within their capabilities.
