Summary: School facilities restoration and enhancement at Chapman Hills Elementary in Orange, CA.
Chapman Hills Elementary's current enrollment is 505 kids 90 of which are pre-school and kindergarten. In recent years some of the play equipment and shade structures were required to be removed due to age and new school code issues. Unfortunately the school has not had the funds to replace these structures due to funding cutbacks and issues. The remaining play equipment cannot safely accommodate the number of children wanting to use it, and keeping the numbers safe is difficult for faculty to monitor. Also the pre-school and kindergarten area eating shade areas were removed, so on sunny days (most days) 90 kids need to be walked to the bigger kids area to eat, and this takes considerable time and supervision, and also poses safety issues for the smaller children. Our Rotary club in partnership with the school district, and PTA will provide funds for two play structures - one for pre-school/kindergarten and one for the older kids- and a shade structure for the pre-school/kindergarten area. Rotarians will be involved in the planning and budgeting of the project as well as installation of minor improvements. (Per school district regulations major installations must be conducted by school maintenance and approved contractors.)
