Helmets in a Box Program
Our program will be designed to help Rotarians educate students and young adults to wear a helmet when biking or participating in sports.
Google Rotary and Helmets and you will find hundreds of clubs around the country giving away free helmets with programs like "Lids for Kids".
A Rotarian in our club lost her 18-year-old son and is giving away free helmets in our area and starting a foundation called "Love and Support for Gary".
All of these programs help provide free helmets and some guidance, but AAA and The Newport Beach Police Department say the biggest challenge is educating and motivating people to wear them!
A helmet cannot protect you if you don't wear it!
Our "Helmets in a Box" program will off offer a turnkey solution for clubs to adopt schools in their city into the program and promote Rotary in the process.
We have partnered with AAA to provide free current literature and instructional materials. The Chief of Police of Newport Beach is a member of our club and he has assigned his lieutenant of traffic Tom Fischbacher to support us on this project.
We will design the programs to share with any Rotary Club that would like to participate.
Our Website will have all the current information and downloadable forms, guidelines, etc.
Project funds will be used for website development and promotional materials not supplied by AAA.
4 Rotarians from our club will help design and implement the program in our area but we hope that all clubs in the US can benefit from this program. We will have approximately 30 members help with the program once it is developed.
We will complete the project in the 2017-2018 Year.
