Summary: A wheelchair swing and bench provided to the City of Kingman public park for special needs youth in Kingman,Az, United States

Mohave County is located in the northwest corner of Arizona. Kingman is the county seat with a population of 29,000, if you include near by communities it brings the total to approximately 55,000 residents. Kingman has two Rotary Clubs and an Interact Club all of which are active and supportive in the community. The Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club members have actively supported various countywide health assessments. In addition, they participated in workgroups to identify priority areas to improve the health and economic conditions of our communities.

One of the assessments specifically addressed children and youth with special health care needs. Several key findings of the 2014 Mohave County Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) were the lack of awareness and the access to services that would provide socialization and physical activities which include wheelchair accommodations and handicap friendly playgrounds.

The Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club desires to support CYSHCN through the utilization of an existing City of Kingman's park to develop an inclusive recreational area that provides a wheelchair swing. The City of Kingman takes pride in their well maintained parks and playgrounds and welcome the opportunity to partner with the Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club. This wheelchair swing project will strengthen the capacity of local community organizations (private, public and service-based) to develop a partnership that supports economic development towards the health improvement and quality of life for our special needs population.

Upon approval of the grant funding match, the partners will meet to review action plan for ordering, equipment placement and Kingman Route 66 Rotary dedication ceremony. The equipment will have a visual plaque which includes the Rotary International logo at the park site. Local media will be invited to attend dedication, along with notification and information on our website and Facebook. All aforementioned, will taken place within 2017-2018 grant year. As soon as the detailed plan is finalized, it will be provided in the required reporting.
