Project Description Country: USA Location: Chula Vista CA Total Budget: $1,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Funds are used to buy a minimium of three (3) children's books. CVSR has been instrumental in the success of Books for Babies in the San Diego area. A partnership was formed with the Greater San Diego Reading Association (GSDRA. With the help of CVSR GSDRA is able to buy backpack or book bags with the Rotary Club Logo and the names of both organizations. Books are chosen by GSDRA for their appropriateness for young children and are dual language English/Spanish. Together with a note about the importance of reading to their newborns. Included in the bags is a free Parent/Family magazine. Book bags are then delivered by female members of both organizations to 6 area hospitals. This project continues to spread the word that Rotary cares about literacy and the families of the newest members of our society.
