Summary: Providing free dictionaries for 3rd grade students in the PUSD


Educators believe that third grade is the reading level that is key for every student. Dictionaries help students learn the meaning of words, how to become better spellers, better readers, better writers and more creative thinkers. It has been proven students with their own dictionaries use them more often and the connection with a book offers advantages over digital devices.

This grant will be used to purchase dictionaries (highly discounted) and will be distributed directly to students. Club members will be making the presentation to each student while also explaining to the students the role of Rotary in the community, thus enhancing the image of Rotary.

The schools impacted will be all elementary schools in PUSD, as well as internationally. In the past dictionaries have been provide to poor school in the Philippians, Micronesia, Indonesia and Ecuador.

This project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2017

District 5340 Rotary Foundation Committee approved $3,000, DDF match for the Grant at the 8-14-17, meeting. Approval contingent upon 2 members from the Club watch District Grant Training Webinar on YouTube. Email sent with link to webinar and instructions for Club President to certify attendance.

Funds will be deposited to Club Bank Account after approval from The Rotary Foundation. Email sent with form requesting Club Bank Account Deposit Information.
