Project Description

Country: Liberia

Location: Liberia, Africa

Total Budget: $7,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: A container with 50,000 books will be shipped to Liberia, Africa for distribution to school children

Liberia has the largest number of school children staying at home due to challenges brought about by 15-year civil war and Ebola outbreak. The books will improve literacy and impact over 50,000 students who are below Title 1 school level. These funds will pay for collection, storage, shipment and delivery of thousands of books to needy school children. For some of the children, it will be the first time they own a book. Liberia has less than 155 Rotarians nationwide. This project has energized them and is a PR tool that will help grow membership as they distribute the donated books.
