Project Description

Country: USA

Location: San Diego, CA

Total Budget: $4,500

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: This project will fund the transportation of elementary school students to visit the downtown library as well as providing each of them with a book

This project is a resubmittal of P-1484 that was funded but not completed in FY 16-17. We have returned the money to the district. We would like to continue of our Downtown Library project completed in FY 14-15, P-555. In similar fashion, our club will coordinate trips to the downtown library for elementary school students in underserved areas of San Diego. Many students have never had the opportunity to see the Downtown Library and fieldtrips in general have decreased significantly due to budget cuts. The goal is to continue to stoke the fire of learning, curiosity and exploration in the students and to highlight the importance of reading in their development as change makers in their community. This grant will also supply books to students.

In FY 16-17, we had a great deal of difficulty in getting a school contact. We have now secured a steady contact and are ready to implement for FY 17-18.
