Project Description

Country: USA

Total Budget: $10,000

Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: Construction/Renovation

Summary: Flooring, cabinets, lighting, paint, and study room furnishing for the Sparrow's Nest new Kalispell location. It will provide housing and study facilities for homeless high school students in the Kalispell area.

This joint project by the Rotary Club of Kalispell (aka Kalispell Noon Club) and Rotary Club of Kalispell Daybreak will complete the renovation of the newly donated Sparrow's Nest home in Kalispell.

Sparrow's Nest is a non-denominational, nonprofit organization that provides housing and graduation assistance for unaccompanied high school students who are temporarily or permanently homeless. The new Kalispell location will house and support the academic efforts of 8 high school students, and provide daytime shelter and study space for 25 additional students. Sparrow's Nest staff provides on-site adult supervision and mentoring for the teens.

Project funds will be used to purchase flooring, kitchen cabinets, ceiling light fixtures, paint for the interior and exterior of the house, and study room furnishings. 8 Rotarians from Kalispell "Noon Club", 8 Rotarians from Kalispell "Daybreak", and 4 Kalispell Rotary Interact Club members will contribute at least 100 hours of labor to install flooring, paint the house interior and exterior, assist as appropriate with ceiling light installation, and assemble study room furnishings.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

How Rotary will be recognized:

A custom-made, framed poster will be created using RI's marketing template - Rotary: People of Action for prominent display in the new Sparrow's Nest location. The poster will include photos taken during our work project; simple text recognizing the contributions of Rotary District 5390, Rotary Club of Kalispell Daybreak, Rotary Club of Kalispell, and our Interact Club; and a "Welcome!" to all students who come to study and live at the Sparrow's Nest.

On 7/17 I had nearly completed the online final report for our project, needing only to add more lines to the budget accounting section. I was following instructions to do this when an Error message appeared and the contents of the form were completely erased. I will wait for administrative advice before reconstructing the report. Thank you
