Activity Type:
Community Development: Construction/Renovation
Summary: Replace broken handicapped seats at the community theatre, Valley Performing Arts.
The Wasilla Sunrise Rotary Club, as a community service project, has been systematically installing theatre seats donated from another charitable organization for the local community theatre, a non-profit 501c3 entity. However, the donated seats (slightly used) do not include special handicapped seats for the first level. This grant will help Wasilla Sunrise complete the project by including appropriate handicapped seating for patrons with disabilities. Valley Performing Arts has provided live community theatre for over 42 years to the Matanuska Susitna Valley and serves over 10,000 patrons each year. Sunrise Rotary Club members have been donating their time to the replacement of seats in the 172 seat theatre over a period of Saturday mornings since July 2017. Valley Performing Arts will acknowledge both the financial and volunteer contributions of the Wasilla Sunrise Rotary Club in their play programs published for performances.
