Project Description Country: USA Location: Anchorage Total Budget: $7,942 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Provide dictionaries for all third graders in the Anchorage area We have a huge language diversity in the Anchorage area with over 100 languages spoken and many times, English is not the children's first language. By providing dictionaries we teach the children how to use them and that they understand this is something they can take home and keep. Understanding the language allows them to perform better in school. We provide dictionaries to close to 4000 students including the schools on the military base and alternative schools. We have 25-30 Rotarians involved in the delivery of the dictionaires every year and we all look forward to brightening the children's lives.
