Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Kearney

Total Budget: $1,000

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Volunteer Services

Summary: Sponsor Conference by offsetting cost of speaker Dr. Temple Geandin and Operation Shine Camp

Our goal is to present a conference with a variety of resources, options, and topics related to Autism Spectrum Disorders. Everyone's autism experience is unique and what works for one, may not work for all. Whether you learn something for today or are able to save the information for a later time, we hope you gain something new by attending. We hope by attending you will gain new information that will help an individual with autism progress and help prevent the bullying that occurs when people don't understand the disorder. Conference is held at the Younes Conference Center on August 24th. Rotary members are encouraged to attend and help raise awareness in the community. Extra funds will go toward operating expenses for Operation Shine Camp which is held in June. The camp promotes inclusion for all individuals.

OPERATION SHINE CAMP is a two-day camp for kids ages 7-12 experiencing Autism Spectrum Disorders and related conditions. The camp is held at the Covenant Cedars Bible Camp near Hordville, NE. The days will include arts/crafts, swimming, fishing, archery, crate stacking, sensory activities and more!

Each Camper has at least one "1-on-1" Dream Big Camper

All Staff & Volunteers have received training in the specific disorders that will be present at camp.

There is nursing staff on-site 24/7.

There are 2 mental health therapists on-site 24/7.

All cabins have handicap accessible full bathroom facilities

To sponsor 1 child costs $300
