Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Krug Elementary School

Total Budget: $752

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Rotary Club of Montgomery would like to partner with Krug Elementary school to build a sustainable garden to benefit the students and the area residents by providing a learning opportunity for the students and vegetables for the residents in the area.

Krug Elementary school is a Title 1 school with all children receiving free or reduced breakfast and lunch. The garden will also ensure families are eating nutritious foods throughout the summer. The garden will build community cohesion with the schools' neighbors including the nearby Lutheran Church that has a food pantry. The garden will foster ownership and build goodwill and friendships as children and parents work together to maintain the garden through the entire process planting, maintenance and harvesting. Approximately 300 students will benefit from the garden along with the immediate community in the vicinity.

This is for phase II of the project as phase I was completed in Rotary Year 2017/18.

Stewardship review complete. Despite the $16 shortage of matching funds spent, the shortfall is insignificant enough to request a return of $8 to the District. Otherwise, meets all criteria. Final Report reviewed. Project okay to be approved by District Approval Committee. WL/LG
