THE ROTARY CLUB OF FORT WORTH SOUTHWEST is teaming up with Breast Screening Services, a subsidiary of Mammocare, a Non-Governmental Organization incorporated in Ghana to raise funds for hand-held optical breast screening devices, known as Breast-I, to be used in Ghana to detect early signs of breast cancer.Breast-i when fully charged can be used to examine approximately 70 women making it useful and accessible in remote villages and areas with unreliable electricity. Usage requires just a dark room and a well-trained handler; hence it is inexpensive to use and an alternative solution in developing countries.
Approximately 70% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in Ghana are in the advanced stages of the disease. Most of these women are in the remote areas and have limited access to screening services or are not educated on the disease. Our goal is to create awareness and provide screening services to these women and help save their lives. Club members are dedicated to soliciting funds from businesses and promoting our gofundme page for this project. We hope to raise the much needed funds by June 30th, 2018.
