Project Description

Country: USA

Total Budget: $2,300

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Building of 2 Kiosks on the North Valley Rail Trail (NVRT) Accessibility and Navigation Project in McCall, ID to benefit local families and area visitors.

Valley County Pathways (VCP) is developing the "North Valley Rail Trail (NVRT) Accessibility and Navigation Project." VCP's key goal for 2018/19 season is to stimulate greater year-round use of NVRT by improving trail signage and accessibility. NVRT stretches between the resort town of McCall, ID and a point west of the unincorporated community of Lake Fork. Plans call for the eventual completion of the trail along the length of the Long Valley, ultimately stretching more than 30 miles from McCall to Cascade. The 2 kiosks will help the public navigate and access the NVRT and will greatly increase its usage and promote healthy and active lifestyle for local families as well as area visitors. Current signage along the NVRT is minimal and maps as well as brochures of NVRT are outdated. The "NVRT Accessibility and Navigation Project" will improve the signage and awareness about NVRT as well as provide accessibility to the south endpoint of the current trail. The project objective is to create clear, visible and comprehensive signage to be designed and installed along the trail to help navigate the NVRT. Rotary funds will be used to construct 2 trail kiosks: one at the trailhead in McCall and the other at the trail's south terminus near Lake Fork.

Proposed Timeline:

- May 2018 - Kiosk design and construction

- June-July 2018 - Kiosks and waterproof maps+signs installation

- May 2019 - Final Project Report

Rotarians will be using the trail and providing feedback to Valley County Pathways in regards to the usefulness of the kiosks.

TRF approved the district block grant on 7/14/18. The district received more requests for DDF than money available requiring that cuts be made in funding. Your project is reduced to $1124 of DDF as the application was signed after the deadline. We have cancelled the signature process and adjusted the financing to reflect this. To confirm your intention to continue with the project, please send it again for signatures on the admin side of the description tab. Questions? Need help? Contact District Grants Chair Ines Crespo, 208 320-8494 or DRFC Marianne Barker, 208 308-5617.
