The Rotary Club of Lemont/Homer Glen will assist the Lemont Historical Society in implementing a new software program to preserve its historical archives, photographs and documents. The Society oversees the operations of the local historical museum and it's mission is to promote research, preservation, education and dissemination of history and collections related to the greater Lemont area.
The Society/Museum provides wonderful educational opportunities to our residents, businesses, visitors, and countless youth groups (scouts, schools, etc). This organization runs strictly on memberships, donations, and grants.
The Lemont Historical Society is in need of software to convert it's archives into digital format. The total cost of the software and equipment is $900. This initiative would provide a safeguard to the valuable and wonderful educational materials /information that is maintained by the organization. Our Rotary club members will assist Historical Society members with the implementation and volunteer services hours to covert the materials to a digital format. The club will also partner with our local high school Interact club who can assist in volunteering service hours in archiving the thousands of documents and materials. The opportunity to partner with both the Historical Society and our Interact club will promote further collaboration among local clubs and will provide us great opportunities to further generate Rotary and Interact club awareness in our community.
Our club will use funds from existing fundraisers as well as an upcoming raffles.
The project is expected to take place over the next several months and is expected to be completed by April 30, 2019.
