The Glendale West Rotary Club will provide a dictionary to every third grader and third grade teacher in the 14 Glendale Elementary School District Schools (https://portals.gesd40.org/).
We will place labels with the 4-Way test and the Rotary sponsors names in the 1300 student dictionaries. Rotarians in teams of 2 or 3 will personally distribute the dictionaries to third grade students and their teachers. The Glendale Elementary School District's free and reduced lunch rate is over 91% for the district. The majority of children have limited books at home much less a dictionary to support their writing and reading skills.
We plan to order the dictionaries as soon as money is available. Our goal would to be distribute all dictionaries prior to Christmas break.
A Press release will be completed regarding the donation and information will be posted on Club web and social media sites.
The project costs is $4130.00. The dictionaries are $2.50 each and we will need 66 boxes of 24 dictionaries, $3,960.00. We are projecting the cost of printing to be about $170.
This is an annual service project that the Glendale West Rotary Club does to promote children's literacy.
