To provide a 3 day Peace Literacy "train-the-trainer" workshop for all 42 schools in the Peoria Unified School District. Superintendent Linda Palles Thompson is conducting a "District reset" in July/August 2018 that includes Peace Literacy education.
The purpose of the Peace Literacy training is to build on the strengths of these three models: 1) Viewing peace not simply as a goal, but as a skill-set, 2) Teaching a strategic approach to peacemaking, and 3) Focusing on and integrating well-being at the personal, social, and political levels.
This "Train the Trainer" session will equip educators with the tools needed to include peace through all of the schools' curriculums and help to stem the tide of self-harm and violence being seen in public elementary and high schools. Each school will have a counselor, a principal, and a teacher in attendance. The $4,000 project includes travel, lodging, car, and food for two peace educators and Paul Chappell with the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. Paul's Peace Literacy curriculum and materials for K-12 educators is provided free of charge.
