Project Description Country: USA Location: Burkburnett Total Budget: $5,130 Area of Focus: None Activity Type: Community Development: General Summary: A large 24ft X 24ft X12 ft high playground shade canopy for the Burkburnett Boys & Girls club playground. The Boys and Girls Club of Burkburnett hosts between 140 and 160 youngsters each day after school. Two hundred have enrolled for the summer program. The club has a nice playground but no shade. Thus during the summer the playground equipment becomes too hot to play on. Generally, by 9:30 a.m. the playground has to be vacated. Burkburnett Rotary plans to provide approx two-thirds of the funds to purchase an appropriate shade canopy. This canopy would extend playground time, protect children from UV rays, protect against overheating as they play and add to the confidence of their parents. Once purchased, the canopy structure would have to be erected and secured. Our Rotary Club will provide significant labor toward this task. We plan to construct this shade canopy in September, 2018.
