Project Description Country: USA Location: San Diego Total Budget: $2,000 Area of Focus: Economic and community development Activity Type: Community Development: General Summary: Car for Syrian refugee mom in San Diego Our club has sponsored and mentored a Syrian refugee family, the Alshahhouds, for the last 1.5 years. The family has 9 members and one car that is used by the father of the family for work. The mother of the family is left without transportation to shop or take her kids to appointments during the day. The mom is going to begin a IRC training program to get a food handler's license (CHOP) in the fall. She plans to start work after this program and eventually start her own catering business. All of her plans for economic development for her family necessitate a need for her own transportation. This grant will fund part of the cost of a used car. The funds would be used promptly after approved to help purchase the car.
