The Blue Mound Fitness Park is intended as a City of Nocona owned and maintained park dedicated to providing residents and non-residents of all ages, an outdoor facility to maintain their general health and well being by use of a walking-biking-running trail together with Fitness Stations, a Gazebo shelter and benches for quiet reflection.
The Fitness Park will provide a fitness trail for the citizens of Nocona and surrounding area residents, with elevation changes for better cardio health and nature setting with views for mental well being.
Additionally, local groups such as the Relay for Life have expressed an interest in using the trail for future fund raising and health related events.
The Trail and Fitness Improvements Proposed; -TOTAL PROJECT
The Fitness trail is a non-motorized path, 6 ' wide and approximately 5280 feet long. winding around the site through the trees, climbing up and down the slopes. The Trail Entrance near the parking lot has an ADA compliant drinking fountain and shaded rest station. 6 park benches are located at points along the trail, each with trash containers. The gazebo is located at the highest point for views.
TWO 20' x30' fitness stations are to be located along the trail. Within the station are towers with three (3) separate exercises features appropriate for all ages.
A final phase of the project will provide for lighting of the trail, and parking lot.
THIS GRANT APPLICATION IS FOR PHASE 1
The Parking Lot and Entrances-PHASE 1:
The plan provides an entry to the Park from both Blue Mound Street and Grayson Street. Pipe Rail entry gates shown will enable the Park to be closed to vehicle traffic at night. 30 standard parking spaces and 2 handicap spaces are provided in Phase 1.
The parking lots are to be gravel base surface without curbs or concrete paving. This will enable construction of a firm surface initially to park vehicles, and provide a stable sub-surface to pave the lots in the future.
After completion of the parking construction, the path of the trail will be mowed enabling use of the earth trail initially. The initial phase will be completed in 2018-19 Rotary year.
Approximately $110,919.00 of the $305,059.00 total project estimated cost is completed and funded to date through community donations.
Use of Grant Funds:
The initial grant application is for construction of the gravel parking lot, entry gates, and mowing of the trail. This $5,770 project cost is possible with the City donating the equipment and labor for parking lot construction plus trail mowing and Rotary paying for the gravel material. The pipe rail fencing material is donated and the labor to install the fence will be done with community & student volunteers.
Progress to Date:
The 22+ acre site has been donated and deeded to the City of Nocona. Additionally, the Gazebo shelter has been constructed at the top of the Blue Mount Hill.
