Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Breckenridge

Total Budget: $1,200

Area of Focus: None

Activity Type: Education: Volunteer Services

Summary: Free, community-wide fishing event for kids 16 years of age and under

Kid fishing events are held all over the country. The intent of these programs is to bring families together, to provide fishing opportunities for kids that do not normally have such opportunities, and to provide experienced anglers to teach kids how to fish.

On April 13, 2019 the Breckenridge Rotary and Lions Clubs plan to host a free, community-wide fishing event for kids 16 years of age and under at the "Frog Pond" from 8am to 12noon. The school mentoring program's adults and youth have been asked to participate in this joint club event.

In October of 2018 the pond will be stocked with 400 catfish 6 to 8 inches long which will be fed out until April of 2019. Fishing equipment will be provided by Game Warden Cliff Westbrook, parents, service club members, and volunteers. The Lions Club will provide drinks and snacks to assist with the program. The Rotary Club will provide $600 from local club funds and $600 from a Rotary District Grant to fund the program which includes purchasing the fish, fish feeder, fish food, marketing expenses, and T-shirts for the kids.

The hope and expectation is that the Kid Fish program will become an annual event.
