Summary: Extend cross trail and add a bench to honor Rotary
Sitka's Cross Trail extends behind all of the town: through large old-growth forests, smaller second-growth trees, and muskegs. This trail unites locals and tourists, and Democrats and Republicans. We treasure our trails, particularly during this time of COVID, when we are all aware of how lucky we are to be able to be safely outside, socially distant from one another. Sitka Rotary's members would like to partner with Sitka Trail Works to help extend the Cross Trail. With a $5,000 donation to Sitka Trail Works, a bench will be built and placed on the Cross Trail to commemorate Sitka Rotary and its members love of the outdoors. The money will also go towards extending the Cross Trail, which adds so much to the quality of life that attracts people to Sitka. Our club members will participate by working on the trail and the bench with members of Sitka Trail Works. The bench will be enjoyed by all, and let people know that Rotary is alive and well in Sitka.

This fall we gave the $5,000 to Sitka Trail Works necessary to extend the cross trail and build our bench. They aren't punching out the last segment of the Cross Trail that goes up to Harbor Mountain (where our bench will be) until near the end of this project since it will open the flood gates of pedestrian foot traffic on to their work site / staging area. So our bench won't be in place until this summer.
