Summary: $10,000 in scholarships for graduating seniors from Chula Vista high schools.
Chula Vista has a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged and minority families than San Diego County as a whole. Education has been and is a way out of poverty, especially for minority students. Students with a college degree fare far better than those who either left school before graduation or earned only a high school diploma. Yet, college remains unaffordable for many low-income students, even when accessing all available public-sector assistance programs. Scholarships can help cover the financial gap. The Chula Vista Rotary Club proposes giving a total of $10,000 in scholarships to up to 10 students graduating from Chula Vista high schools in Spring 2021 and matriculating at a college or university.
