Summary: Two respirators with buddy systems provided to the Hot Springs, SD Volunteer Fire Department for volunteer firefighters.


The Hot Springs Rotary Club will purchase the specified respirators for the VFD after learning of the need when the fire chief presented at our club after a big fire that destroyed five downtown businesses. These respirators will add to the number of firefighters who can safely enter burning buildings to search for persons trapped inside. The equipment will allow the firefighter to share her or his air with a rescued person or another firefighter in need. This project addresses sustainability in our community be decreasing the risk to life and property. Beneficiaries are the citizens of Hot Springs and the firefighter volunteers. Once the equipment reaches it useful like, another fundraiser will need to be implemented for replacement. Rotarians decided to act, applied for the grant, will purchase the equipment, present the equipment to the volunteer fire department, publicize the project, report on the project, and monitor the use and continuing needs of the HSVFD.


Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

The Hot Springs Rotary Club has decided to provide additional equipment that is need to stabilize a vehicle during extractions as well as equipment that pries a vehicle open during extraction of a victim. This additional funding exhausts the funds of our Volunteer Fire Department Equipment grant. Will forward receipts and bank documents to close out the grant.
