The young women at St. Christopher's New Windsor campus are victims of abuse, whether through sex trafficking or domestic abuse. This project will teach them the skill of sewing which will enable them to learn a trade and also help during this pandemic by teaching mask-making. As their skill develops, the young women will learn to create blankets, bags, clothing, etc. which they could sell.
The needs for this project include supplies for five young women at a time such as sewing machines, irons and ironing tabletop pads, scissors, rotary cutters, measuring and cutting mats, fabric and other sewing materials, for an estimated total of $3000.
We estimate about five club members to be involved in areas such as volunteering as instructors, working with the school to set up the teaching space, coordinating lessons, etc.
Once the project is up and running, we estimate about five months before evaluating the potential to expand the resources in the coming years.
